Concrete Block
A concrete block is sometimes known as concrete masonry unit (CMU), they can be solid or hollow and is available in many shapes and sizes. Concrete Blocks are used for engineering and architectural purposes.
Engineering usage of Concrete Block
Zenbes blocks can be constructed as a Load-bearing Wall or Infill Wall.
1) Load-bearing Wall
Zenbes CMU is designed to be a high quality alternative to conventional structure by replacing cast in-situ reinforced concrete structure. Columns, Beams and Lintels are constructed using Concrete Masonry Units (CMU). Loadbearing wall, wall primarily designed to carry an imposed vertical load in addition to its own weight.
Some advantages of a CMU Load Bearing Wall:-
- CMU Full Block & Bond Beam when reinforced and infilled with concrete, becomes a stiffener & bond beam to replace conventional column, beam & lintel. It also act as a permanent formwork thus eliminating form-work/carpentry costs. An entire building can be built using this system.
2) As Infill Wall (Between Column & Beam)
Zenbes CMU are also widely used to replace clay bricks in between conventional RC and Steel frame structure.
Some advantages of a CMU Infill Wall:-
- Less wet trades in construction site; cleaner site environment.
- Easily accessible to any corner in the construction site.
- Industrialized building system; faster installation period.
- Less cleaning & surface maintenance after installation.
- Only semi-skilled workers are needed for installation.
- Retains colour brilliance despite constant exposure to outdoor elements.
- High compressive strength minimizes severe damage by rough handling on site, hence reducing waste.
- Durable; no corrosion or distortion after long period.
- Dimensionally precise & consistent; this uniformity makes block-laying much easier and faster.
- Less mortar joints between blocks.
- Lighter weight (20-30% than bricks) means less dead load per square meter.
- Surface area per piece is equivalent to about 5 times of normal bricks thus enabling faster laying work.
- Larger & level surface area allows for a straighter wall with minimal skim coat, plastering & direct paint-on.
- Fair-face (bare) wall can achieve 2-hours fire rating without plastering, skimcoat or infill.
Advantages of Zenbes CMU
For more than a quarter century, Zenbes has manufactured concrete products of a very high quality for the construction industry. Specifically, our Concrete Masonry Units (CMU), or commonly referred to as Concrete Blocks are produced under very stringent requirements in compliance to SIRIM Product Certification processes, IBS Status Certification by CIDB and Fire Resistance rating approved by Bomba, Malaysia.
In order to maintain and enhance customer confidence, our products have to meet high consistency and quality standards. We are fully committed to ensure that our production processes satisfy all quality requirements under ISO 9001- Quality Management System.
1) Cost-effective & Time-saving
Zenbes CMU is designed to be a high quality alternative to conventional construction methods by replacing common bricks & cast in-situ reinforced concrete structure. In most circumstances, CMU construction is faster and cheaper compared to conventional construction while the material properties are equal, if not better than bricks.
2) Structural Strength
Strict adherence to approved manufacturing processes at our block plant housing Besser machines from U.S.A. produces high quality and high-strength CMU compliant to BS EN 771-3: 2011.
3) Fire Resistance
Zenbes CMU offers excellent fire resistance. They are incombustible, rarely damaged by fire, do not buckle like steel, do not spall like reinforced concrete and do not burn like timber. There are tested in accordance to BS 476: Part 22 : 1987 & ASTM Standard E2226-10 and is approved by Bomba for Malaysia and SCDF – BCA for Singapore.
4) Thermal Comfort
The presence of dead air trapped in the cavities of CMU provides natural thermal insulation. ln hot tropical climatic temperatures, the interior of a CMU constructed building is cooler and more comfortable compared to a conventional brick building.
5) Noise Resistance
Due to the air cavities and high concrete density, CMU will offer effective noise insulation against medium to high range frequencies, this will result in a quiet and peaceful working/living environment.
6) Low Water Absorption
Our advanced manufacturing process creates concrete blocks with low permeability in order to minimize water penetration. Our special low moisture batching control also reduces the rate of drying shrinkage.
7) Eco-friendly
We are aware of the need to be environmentally conscious, thus the compliance to international green standards. We are continuously seeking to balance our aim of increasing productivity without forsaking our intention of being environmentally conscious e.g. increasing our recycle waste percentage in our raw materials consumption. We are accredited under ISO 14001: Environmental Management System & Singapore Green Label.
8) IBS Accreditation by CIDB
Zenbes CMU is a tested and proven IBS System and we are rated as aCategory A IBS manufacturer. Our CMU have achieved a range of scoring points in the structural, wall and components for simplified construction solutions as defined by CIDB. Load bearing blockwork system can score up to 0.8 IBS factor for structural component, 0.5 factor in the wall category and an additional 8 points in the components for simplified construction solutions.
